School of Theatre and Dance Alums Raise Money for Student Scholarships!
Theatre and Dance alumni from the 80's, 90's and 2000's gathered on November 10 to enjoy a reunion of old friends and a performance of Rocky Horror Show. This event proved even more exciting when a number of alums pledged to support student scholarships in the School of Theatre and Dance. Here is a letter from Jeff Syroney, Campaign leader:
Dear School of Theatre and Dance Alumni,
What an amazing evening was shared on Saturday, November 10, when over 60 School of Theatre and Dance Alumni reconnected at the newly dedicated Roe Green Center for the School of Theatre and Dance. They toured the new building and "Time Warped" to a rocking Stem Punk-inspired "Rocky Horror Show."
This event also served as the kick-off to a newly formed Kent State Theatre and Dance Alumni Scholarship Fund. The fund sets an audacious goal of raising a $25,000 endowment. The interest generated by this endowment will be used to the exclusive purpose of awarding an annual scholarship of up to $1250 to a deserving Theatre and Dance student.
The Alumni in attendance embraced the idea enthusiastically with multiple pledges to help. We now turn to you with a request to lend a hand in helping us reach this goals. $25,000 becomes easy to raise if we can identify 100 Almuni willing to commit to a gift of $50 a year for the next five years. Think about it. For five donations of $50 over the course of the next five years, we have the opportunity to build an endowment that will fund an annual scholarship in perpetuity. Of course, if you are in a position to pledge more, you will enable us to achieve our goal and begin supporting students even faster. Whether a one-time contribution or a more significant donation over the next five years, every little bit of your generosity helps to nurture the passion, talent and drive that brought someone like you to Kent.
The School of Theatre and Dance Alumni Scholarship was built around the belief that creating a significant impact for an aspiring theatre-dance student could happen with the help of the School's alumni. Making the decision to pursue training in the arts is a difficult and brave choice to make. Think back to the relationships and the community you worked to create. Remember the chances you took, the mistakes you made, the victories you celebrated, and the people who made that time unique and special to your life. Now consider how your generous gift might help the next generation of young theatre artists make their own mark on the world.

Working together, we can make a huge difference in the lives of current students studying at the School of Theatre and Dance. Thank you very much for your continued support. If we were not able to see you at this past reunion, we look forward to seeing you at the next one!
